Second Chance Recovery Centre (SCRC) is a registered Non-profit Organisation that was started as an in-patient treatment centre in 2012. The centre provides clinical rehabilitation services to people recovering from substance abuse. SCRC was established in 2010 by a concerned community member, the late Mr. Skhumbuzo Nixon Jele with special assistance and guidance from his mother, Ms. Nomonde Mnguni. This was after realising that most of the youth in and around Mamelodi were affected by drug abuse. Children as young as 13 years of age use drugs and their parents have no other alternative but to abandon them which ultimately means that they get involved in criminal activities and prostitution to sustain their newly found drug habit. The late Skhumbuzo Jele acquired a then vandalised facility to lay the foundation of this now popular drug recovery centre in Mamelodi.
The essential rationale behind the establishment of SCRC was to provide a cost-effective program which is managed by a team of professionals whose motivation, dedication and absolute commitment is to the successful recovery of all in-house service users in it the organisation's care. SCRC's multidisciplinary therapeutic team comprises of counsellors, social workers, occupational therapists professional and enrolled nurses and different religious intervention. SCRC is registered with the department of social development, the department of health, the board of health funders, the local municipality, as well as numerous community bodies.
